“I believe this legislation not only protects the Second Amendment rights of Arizona citizens, but restores those rights as well,” Brewer said in a statement.

Alaska and Vermont now do not require permits to carry concealed weapons.

By eliminating the permit requirement, the Arizona legislation will allow people 21 or older to forego background checks and classes that are now required.

Another one down, 47 to go. Anyone in the Tennessee legislature listening?

Today, Idaho Governor “Butch” Otter signed House Bill 589 (HB589), the Firearms Freedom Act. The Senate voted 27-7 and the House passed it by a vote of 53-15. Idaho is now the 7th state to pass the act into law, joining Montana, Tennessee, Utah, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Arizona.

The bill makes law that guns or ammunition manufactured and sold in Idaho are to be exempt from all federal laws and regulation, including registration requirements – as claimed by D.C. under the power to regulate commerce “among the several states.”

Now that’s good news.

Two recent crimes, one in which a burglar shot a homeowner and the other a knife-wielding man shot and killed by a potential victim, symbolize what has driven more and more people to get gun permits.

Chip Holland, training director at Range USA, said handgun permits could protect when law enforcement can not.

“When you need the police the most, they’re not going to be able to be there,” Holland said.

Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst.

Witness Lakisha Gorman said, “He was running up to different people trying to stab them and he ran up to that dude’s car as he was pulling out of the driveway and he had a baby in the car with him and he just started trying to stab the dude and the dude pulled a gun out and shot him.” . . .

Witnesses say the shooter stayed on the scene until police arrived. Gorman said, “When police pulled up he laid his gun on the ground and handed them a gun permit or drivers license.”

Investigators say the man threatening to stab people died at the scene, still holding the knife in his hand.

I feel for both individuals involved, but it is good news that detectives are saying that it looks like a justified shooting and no charges will be brought.

Another example of why the Second Amendment isn’t about hunting.

The proposal would allow a person to carry the weapon “during the archery-only deer season.”

House Democratic Caucus Chairman Mike Turner of Nashville says he proposed the legislation after a constituent was robbed in a parking lot after deer hunting. Hunters are prohibited from using the gun on the deer.

TENNESSEE: Williamson County Attacking Right-to-Carry!  On Monday, September 8, the Williamson County Commission will hear an anti-gun proposal, Resolution No. 9-08-31.  Resolution No. 9-08-31 attempts to impose new restrictions on law-abiding citizens’ right-to-carry in Williamson County.  Resolution No. 9-08-31 would establish a policy prohibiting guns in all buildings owned and controlled by Williamson County and to direct signs providing notice be posted at the entrance ways of each building.  Please click here to view the packet of September Resolutions.  Resolution No. 9-08-31 can be found on Page 54 of 57.  This proposal will require a Majority (13 of 24 Commissioners) to pass or fail.  Please attend this meeting at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, September 8 in the auditorium of the Williamson County Administrative Building, located at 1320 West Main Street in Franklin, to show your opposition to this attack on right-to-carry. The one time that a pro-gun bill actually made it to the House floor, Naifeh broke House rules in order to kill it. If you doubt it just do a little digging and you will find the video of the House proceedings.

Lawyer, activist and TeamGOP principal Jeff Ward reports that just one day after Naifeh’s hometown paper ran an op-ed penned by Ward in which he addresses Naifeh’s hoplophobic record, Naifeh goes to the gun range. And why?

Strangely enough, Naifeh and eight or nine comrades attended a private class for their concealed carry permit on Saturday March 29, 2008.  I guess Naifeh wants to get his permit to combat the negative press this fall in his re-election campaign.

Naifeh has fought arming the populace tooth and nail for years, yet he takes advantage of laws passed in spite of him in order to arm himself. Why the hypocrisy?

Could it be that Naifeh is about to loose state protection because he is going to retire?

One can only hope and pray.

Rep. Rob Briley amended the bill to allow people to carry any where except where not allowed by federal law(as long as they have a licence). Frank was dumb struck and didn’t know what to say.

Where is the Rob Briley we know and hate? I had to applaud I was so in shock. Rob if you keep this up we may have to make you an honorary Republican.

I have my doubts as to Briley’s motivation. Making a bill even more pro-gun is sure to draw Tyrant Naifeh’s ire which is certain death for any legislation. Still, Briley’s action is worth noting.
