It was expected that Harold Ford Jr. would take part in the Democrat primary for the NY Senate. But it turns out that Ford won’t be running. He explains why in an op-ed in the NY Times:

I’ve examined this race in every possible way, and I keep returning to the same fundamental conclusion: If I run, the likely result would be a brutal and highly negative Democratic primary — a primary where the winner emerges weakened and the Republican strengthened.

I refuse to do anything that would help Republicans win a Senate seat in New York, and give the Senate majority to the Republicans.

While loudly proclaiming his independence throughout the article, Ford ends up taking one for the good of the party. One wonders what the party will do for Ford to reward such dedication and loyalty. I don’t think we’ll have to wait too long to find out.
